Crafternoon
Sundays 1 - 3pm
Want to work on a creative project alongside other people?
Bring it along to Crafternoon!
If you’d like bring your own project & materials, these events are free! Otherwise, you can purchase items from the shop, or use upcycle-able items from the Chaos Tables for the regular $5 drop-in fee. Crafternoons are geared towards older teens and adults, but children are welcome as long as they let their grownups create!
We’ll provide an optional creative prompt and you’re welcome to work on your own interpretation, or continue your own work-in-progress.
Crafternoons are first come first serve, just like the Chaos Tables themselves. At past events there has been enough room at the tables for everyone, but we can spread out to the window bench on the other side of doors if needed.
This is an experiment and we’re hoping to find ways to make it work for everyone. We’re asking for signup ahead if possible so we can get a rough idea of numbers.

FIX IT CLINIC October 4th
Co-hosted by the ESC and Creative Chaos Emporium & Proof of Concept Project Pop-Ups at 239 & 243 North Ave.
Fix It Clinic is a community event where all are welcome to bring their broken household items like small electronics and furniture, clothing/textiles, eyeglasses and jewelry. Volunteers will be on hand to assess broken items, and they may perform a fix, or help make a plan for how and where to get items fixed. Come learn a new skill and meet your neighbors while keeping items from being trashed and save money!
Bring the item with all parts necessary to recreate the symptoms (carry-in only: no oversize items). Bring any parts and tools you already own that might be helpful. Come ready to clearly describe what’s wrong and what you’ve tried, or indicate on the survey if you'd like to discuss ahead of time.

Hang out and help us restore some order to this chaos!
So many people have asked to help organize our cool donations, so we’ve set up Hot Mess events as social gatherings where we can sort things out, together! We lovingly call our boxes of unsorted donations “Hot Mess” - because they’re full of great stuff, but a bit too chaotic to put out in the shop!
Hot Mess Nights can host up to a dozen helpers, since they’re scheduled outside of regular open hours and we can spread out across the Chaos Tables.
Mini Hot Mess signups are limited to a max of 4 people since we’ll be sorting during open shop hours on the donations counter at the back of the shop.
Although these events are free, we ask for registration ahead of time to get an idea of numbers for the night (limit of 12 people, ages 14+).
To thank you for your sorting help, each participant may take home a small bag of material from that night’s sorting for free, and can receive a 20% discount on other purchases (discount only applies on the same day of sorting)
Each Hot Mess event will have a different theme:
At PURE HOT MESS events, we’ll sort hot mess boxes and fresh, unorganized donations into categories for pricing to go out in the shop, or to sort into cardboard boxes for future Fill-A-Bag sales (hoping to run these quarterly!).
At EPHEMERA events, we will sort through all kinds of paper items that weren’t meant to last forever - cards, photos, maps, sheet music, antique papers, etc. We hope to make cute packets of easy-to-buy collage materials for the shop so that these items can get back out into the world without being destroyed!
At BEAD & BUTTON events, we will sort through beads, buttons, findings, jewelry-making tools and other beading supplies. We hope to make a bunch of cute jars and organized displays for the donated beads, findings and jewelry that we have here at the shop.
At FABRIC events, we work on sorting colorful scraps and arranging them in neat piles, then tying up little bundles of fabrics that play well together. Depending on the current items on hand, we may also work on folding and color-organizing larger pieces of fabric for display and backstock.
At MAKING NEW STUFF events, we’ll experiment with creating new items from things that aren’t as appealing in their current form - maybe peeling the paper off of old crayons to melt them down into fun new shapes & color combos, or creating new sketchpads out of unwanted loose sheets of paper . . . more ideas to come!
